The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe ( NACZ) handed over eight trophies to the eight NAMA living legends awards in Bulawayo.The ceremony was held at the Bulawayo Art Gallery on Friday and was graced by the Ambassador of India to Zimbabwe Mr Vijay Khanduja, the Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce Raj Modi, NACZ Director Nicholas Moyo and Mr Butholezwe Nyathi the Director of the Bulawayo Art Gallery.
Mr Nicholas Moyo revealed that the Indian Embassy sponsored the awards ” We welcome partnership with the Indian Embassy and we hope it can spread to other programmes in the sector for example I would love to see an Indian visual arts exhibition being hosted here at the art gallery”.
NAMA legebd Nkululeko Innocent Dube the founder of IYASA showed appreciation to the NACZ and other sponsors for honoring the legends with deserved recognition for their different crafts.
” We are not award winners we are recipients. We did not compete with anyone to end up with this recognition. We come out of a sector of many other deserving creatives who shoulf one day receive similar recognition” ,said Mr Dube
The legends who received their trophies include Phathisa Nyathi, Ellen Mlangeni , Felix ” Silandulo” Moyo and Nkululeko Dube .There are artists whose trophies were handed to their close acquintances such as Adam Madebe, Lovemore Majaivana and the late Rashid.
