A twenty year old female reggae artist Nomagugu Amanda Nkomo known popularly as Mandie Mae was invited by Bishop. S. Maduma, founder of Life Crossover Ministries International Church ,to perform at an Easter Conference in Bulawayo on 2 April 2021.
Mandie Mae is a Bulawayo based artist who started this journey late 2018 when she was introduced into the industry II Duce Dynasty. She was inspired by big reggae artists like Lucky Dube and Bob Marley and she sings about issues that people come across in life. “I am trying to make people understand our daily struggles and to make them know that we can still conquer and move on”, she said. Mandie Mae also sings about thanking God for what people have, as she realized that appreciation is very important. She has so far produced ten tracks and this year she is promising her fans a big feature.
Bishop Maduma after listening to Mandie Mae’s music, he felt it was going to be great if she perform at conference and he had to invite her. Mandie Mae performed nicely and the congregation loved her music. The purpose for the invitation was to sell the music and to get more fans. The congregation supported her and almost all her discs were bought.
Mandie Mae has been nominated twice in Bulawayo Arts Awards for being the best new comer and best alternative artist in 2020. “I consider myself average for national level and in the near future I see myself making history, being the first female to do this genre and taking it internationally”, said Mandie Mae in an interview.
Mandie Mae like other upcoming artists, is however facing financial challenges in various areas like video shoots, marketing among other things done in music industry. She is therefore saying, to the upcoming artists, hardships are always there on the way but they should endure and work hard, they will finally make it.
